This is a little essay on the part of speech commonly called “swear words.” My intro is intentionally long enough for FB to utilize the “read more” option. This will allow folks to choose not to read what they don’t want to read and to scroll onward and upward to more genteel topics.

Born Again Christians are held to a higher standard in that God expects more of them than the Natural Man. He expects behavior to both change and improve according to His advice for us. Like a parent telling their child what is expected of them, and leading…

With notable exceptions, men are mankind’s worst enemy. The debate raging about history’s determination of whether or not any particular war is a “Just War” can rage on without me, thank you. I am neither smart enough, nor educated enough, nor morally superior enough for that debate. Nevertheless, with the current battle raging in the Middle East threatening to break out into full scale war and possibly World War. this is what I have to point out: Civilians are the ones who take the brunt of the carnage — men, women, and — worst of all — innocent children are the ones to be slaughtered. And why? Because some dumb ass political or religious leader decides the “Others” do not deserve to live.

There are many mysteries in the Bible, but it is not intended to be a mystical book. To me, “mystical” implies much secretiveness which only a few of the “enlightened” have knowledge of, and only they have the ability to unlock its doors. The clouds part, and the light shines in on them — and only them.

The Bible is a bit different. The Gospels reveal. Its Books are intended to give answers, not just raise more questions. The stories contained therein are grounded firmly in everyday, down-to-earth, meat and potatoes life. If you want to be mystified, it is…

Dear born again Christians,

Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate phenomenon than being convicted of sinfulness by the Holy Spirit. It is different and separate from being led by the Holy Spirit. It is a step of discipleship that begins with repentance, is followed by water baptism (that is, complete immersion in water, representing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus). It is following in a continued learning through revelations and insights from the Holy Spirit opening one’s understanding of the Bible passages. Then, climaxing with the baptism, that is, complete immersion in the Holy Spirit… a distinctly…

Sex. Touchy subject (pun intended). Few phenomena have a greater impact on individuals and their societies. Never having had any classroom education on the subject, I am less than an authority, but what I have experienced in life seems to have some pragmatic validation which I will now explore…

Sex can twist the brain up in knots. It can twist the stomach up in knots. Even after a person “ties the knot,” it can mess with you. Beyond personal dilemmas, sexual dynamics can mess with not only the individual, but society as well. …

This works for Christians who have been “born again,” and I hope it could work for ANYONE AND EVERYONE who begin to call on the name of the Lord Jesus: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6&7, NIV) And if that peace doesn’t come immediately, don’t give up, keep seeking.

Jesus said, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and…

The Bible calls us to mend a broken relationship-- with God and with each other. The calling is not to establish religion. Religions attempt to put God in a manmade box, and in that sense Christianity has become an institution, and would profer that when any movement becomes institutionalized, it dies. The Bible says that "unless there is a falling away, the end will not come." Perhaps your group represents that occurring-- I'm not saying that that is bad-- only that it is necessary to fall away from religion to realize the necessity for seeking a renewal of personal relationship-- with God and with your neighbors, and not excluding God from either.

There is an assumption that underlies our thinking sometimes: when something bad happens to someone, it is because they have done something wrong. Some religions call it “karma.” In popular pseudo religion and “enlightened” speak, we just think of “karma,” leaving out the rest. Perhaps it was so overused and became meaningless like the phrase “Have a nice day!” …

Born again christianity is not an escape from reality. It is a confrontation of reality. When a person takes a good look at their life, he usually realizes that change is needed. So, we look for alternatives. The world offers thousands, if not millions, of alternatives — from lifestyles to philosophies/religions to a change in scenery or a change of careers — it is a virtual Mega Mall overflowing with choices.

Forget the “Mall.” You could spend your whole life there and only find variations of the multitude of things you don’t really need, decorations and distractions from the original…

Last night could have been my last night. That’s probably true for any night, but now in my early seventies, having experienced a 4-way (not the porn thing, the heart surgery thing), blind in one eye, cataract in the other, weak, can’t climb a ladder, my balance is all screwed up (I walk like a drunken sailor unless the ground is perfectly flat so I might as well have a couple and enjoy the “dance” and have a good chuckle)…

Well, I don’t know how I’ll tell the kids. It’s hard for me to accept it myself. Sooner or later…
