All shameful and all historical facts. true.
However, "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain." is found repeated in the Old and New Testaments, and it has also been used peripherally and narrowly meaning don't say "God damn it!" It's more than that...
Here's another phrase that is used in the same marginal way: "be baptized in the name of" omits the nature of the idea of "now we are the children of God." So, the idea is lthe same as being adopted and taking on His name.
Examples: When people become naturalized citizens, wherever they came from, they are now called "Americans." When a child is adopted, they take on the parents surname. When a person is born again, they take on the name of Jesus. However, if a person is merely trying to act the part - and thus really pretending - they have taken the name "Christ" in a useless way, that is, invain.
So, in effect, critics of God, Jesus, and the Bible are missing the target. The example of Nazi Germany's so-called "Christians" - whether realizing it or not - were not truly in the family of God, and therefore were (as many other have done and are doing today) misrepresenting God, Jesus, and the Bible. They were plainly not a part of Jesus family. The Nazis were antichrists. They deserve to be targeted - then as well as today.
Nota bene: "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you of lawlessness!’ - Matthew 7:21-23, BSB.
