Confess Your Shortcomings to Each Other

My wife, at times, is a bit perturbed by my seemingly continuous teasing…

TheBible instructs born again Believers of its inappropriate behavior:

“Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving…” — Ephesians 5:4, NIV.

Such foolish talk is placed smack dab in the middle between coarse joking and obscenity. It is, therefore, a serious matter. So, I should be and will be giving it more weight, asking the Holy Spirit to help me change.

Still and all, when we take away one piece of our character, that space must be filled with another piece, exchanging a bad habit with a good one — just as my petitioning the Holy Spirit implies…

What should be coming out of my mouth are all the ways I am thankful for my wife — who she is and how she does so many things for family, friends, and myself.

Being born again doesn’t mean one has become perfected, but it does mean one has been given the opportunities, the tools of change in the hands of the Holy Spirit. Our own tool in hand is our ability to say “No” to those things we discover are not opportune or edifying or conducive to loving one another, and sharing the Gospel outside our family circle…

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” — Philippians 1:6, NLT.
