Dear Politically Inclined Christians
May 30, 2025
I’ve observed many Christians — who should know better — and even close friends of Patty and I — who have veered off the strait and narrow pathway and given their attention and dedication to the ways of politics — rather than the Way of Jesus.
We have lost the fellowship we had with them as well as our close mutual fellowship with Jesus in our midst…
We don’t meet with them anymore. We rarely even talk with them on the phone anymore. It’s both sad and pathetic. and I am sure this is true throughout the experiences of Believers.
While that pains Patty deeply, I have — for better or worse — a far more detached attitude, knowing that everyone maintains their free will and power to choose this, that, or another thing. It’s inevitable.
Jesus told us this:
You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. — Matthew 24:9–10, NLT.
It’s such a sad situation, but the only thing I can do about it is to offer my experienced view in essay form. My hope is that whoever might read, and listen, they maybe might even pass this warning along…
During my daily listening to an online audio Bible, I came across this verse, and I instantly thought that this is exactly where too many Believers trip up — those who claim to be today’s people of God.
Here is the parallel circumstance and consequence in the Old Testament. The prophet Samuel told the Israelites:
But you have now rejected your God, who saves you out of all your disasters and calamities. And you have said, ‘No, appoint a king over us.’ — 1 Samuel 10:19, NIV.
How did that choice work out for Israel? In the long view, how did that choice work out for those Believers who also considered themselves the people of God?
Further along in this section, in chapter 12, are these quotes which puts my view into perspective:
…the LORD your God was your king. (12:12)
…you will know and see what a great evil you have committed in the sight of the LORD by asking for a king. (12:17)
Y’all might want to consider turning around to get back on the right way. Otherwise, you will learn the hard way. Don’t even begin to think can you claim ignorance. It’s all been written down. It’s all in the Book. Even a child can understand. God doesn’t mince words.
