Did God Really Say?

First, I suppose, I should, once again, try to identify myself.

Easier said than done, and that’s for sure, because online communicating about anything — as opposed face-to-face — is very difficult, to say the least. There is no seeing one another’s facial expressions. There is no hearing of voice inflections which add nuances like state of mind, temperament of emotion, whether intention is humor, sorrow, or satire.”

All my life I have been what the Labor Department classifies as a Material Handler. What that means is that all my work life I was involved in some variation of picking something up and moving it somewhere else. Not a very glorious job, but I did it well and it paid the bills. By the by, the bills included all the normal costs of living, raising a family, paying the mortgage and the rest. My only “executive type” job was serving as a Union Rep for my coworkers and workers associated in other facilities our Local represented.

So, there’s that.

And here’s a bonus:

Now…

As for my general point of view, I believe in God, in Jesus, in all the text of the Bible, and especially in the personal workings of the Holy Spirit. The latter means that there is an essential personal relationship in which one can “live and move and have our existential being.”

Without a personal relationship with God, how could it be possible to know what life is all about, how to act responsibly and with civility, and how to walk according to the Map to an eternal destiny — TBD by our choices to exercise a new nature or to continue in our naturally rebellious one.

Finally, I must emphasize that I am a Believer not on my own accounting or by my own reckoning. Jesus moved me past my own Bankruptcy and took me into His Company, asking me only to be a faithful employee.

I hope you get that last metaphor.

Did God really say and speak the universe and everything in it into existence?

Did God really say that He was sorry that He had made Mankind?

Did God really say to Abraham giving him all those promises?

Did God really say all those things written in the Bible?

Did God really say He would judge the world?

Did God really say He would raise up a Savior?

Did God really promise an eternal Paradise to those who turned to Jesus?

Did God really say His promises are a free gift?

Did God really say that He expects people to Believe His promises?

It’s all true, and I believe only because I choose to accept His gift, and I have repeatedly found it works — and sometimes even if I work badly.

God is the potter. I am the clay. I am glad that I am on HIs wheel.

Now, I know it’s a stretch for you, but I know you can do it… This is actually the Bible verse which stimulated my thinking for this essay.

I hear that stretching is a great warmup before strenuous exercise. So, why not stretch a little?

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7, BSB.
