Expected Return:
The Big Bang has an Expiration Date
March 6, 2025
Some time ago, I wrote about these two schools of thought — both atheistic Science and theistic Science — and so not going to review them here, but only to say, in my reasoned opinion, there is no oppositional relationship between true Science and the Bible. Still, allow me to only point out how odd it is that in the 20th Century, independent Scientists — even those in vehement opposition to the Bible — scientifically found unsettling parallels in the Bible Creation story with its Big Bang Theory. Discovering that the Universe has a defined beginning led Scientists to bend over backwards, furiously attempting to re-evaluate the findings. For if the Bible is fantasy, so was the Big Bang and the Origin of the Universe!
(For your own personal edification, research Edwin Hubble discoveries online).
The reality for atheistic Scientists is that the recent discoveries by the Sciences are too close to the Bible story — even to the point of raising anxiety levels to absolute dread, from dismay to alarm, — even to the point of horror… They were puzzled…”Has Science proved the truth of the Genesis Creation Account?!?”
Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh my!
For a more detailed discussion, here’s an hour long video by a person far smarter and way more educated than myself, Mathematics Professor Emeritus John Lennox of Oxford University:
*****
The Bible reveals several prologues referring to the conditions at the end of the world. Over the Centuries there have been many horrible world conditions from wars, plagues, disastrous earthquakes, climate disasters of drought and famine, social persecutions, cultural morality disintegrations, rising and falling of oppressive Empires, and so on…
What is missing then?
Why hasn’t Jesus returned yet?
What is He waiting for?
While the early Leaders, the first Disciples — like Peter, Paul. James, John, and the rest — repeatedly declared that they knew it was the Last Hour and Jesus would be returning at any moment, I have come to realize that this proclamation was an offshoot of their excitement over just witnessing the resurrected Jesus in person. They were, after all, advised by Him to keep watch for His return. They were very anxious to have Jesus come back to them again and come back ASAP. After all the wonderful experiences they had had and after realizing that He was actually God incarnate. Don’t you think that you might have become a bit overanxious yourself? I know I would!
Jesus had added such profound benefits to their lives, they naturally wanted the reunion to be soon… I don’t think they ever wanted to see Him leave!
If you’ll permit our testimony, Patty and I are sure waiting anxiously for Him — especially after all He has accomplished in our lives!
So, answering my own questions…
What is missing is that those prognostic events did not occur all together in their day. .Jesus has not returned yet for several reasons:
First it is not up to Jesus but is up to God the Father alone: “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.” — Mark 13:32, NLT.
Second, and this also explains the Father’s motives:
“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” — 2 Peter 2"8. NLT.
Likewise, my third self-imposed question is resolved in these verses:
“Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
“However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert! — Mark 13:28–33, NLT.
This also indicates why everyone should maintain an expectant attitude for Jesus’ second arrival — especially since it is obvious everything is sliding sideways, and there are not many prerequisites left to conclude we are nearing the Conclusion.
Psalm 130:5–7, NIV.
“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
,…Put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.”
