First, using sources that agree with one's own opinions as sources for supporting objections is often unwise. ("For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear." - 2 Timothy 4:3, NLT) Now, I realize that by rejecting the letters to Timothy you can give yourself an "out" here, but I ask simply is this point true or not? Does it or does it not accurately reflect today's philosophical bent?

Second, to the common misunderstanding of Paul's directive, two things: One, in context, he is referring to married women. Two, he is concerned about order in the assemblies of Believers as to the distraction of a cacophony of a bunch of married couples talking all at once creating an unfavorable environment for learning what the speaker had to offer.

Lastly, there is Galatians 3:28 - "There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ."

Finally, in Ephesians 5:21, 22, 25, ibid. "...further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord... ...For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her..." - Ephesians 5:21, 22, 25, ibid.

We all need to keep in mind as a warning against getting off on the wrong track: "...speaking of these things in all of his {Paul's} letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction." - 2 Peter 3:16, ibid.

Not for nothing.
