Unions have been fighting this maternal/paternal mindset for decades (and I use "mind" very loosely). As in. "Employers are like your mommy and daddy providing for and protecting us and looking out for our best interest." Try telling people whose towns are in danger of no longer existing, and you will get some answering like, "It was good while it lasted."
