I agree with much of what you wrote. Yet, my take on hell is a bit different, that it is a kind of waiting room, but so also is Abraham's Bosom. Hell, that is, sheol, is, as you said, separation from God. Finally, after God decides enough is enough, there will be a final Judgment, and again, as I see it, He will put the wicked folks out of their misery and not torture them forever... My reasoning goes back to the outset of Jesus' ministry with John the Baptist who said, "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” With the wheat safely in the barn, the chaff will be burnt up, noting that the chaff will then no longer exist, as it were, being burnt up and all... Unquenchable simply means that the chaff cannot withstand being burnt up... gone...done for... smoked...
