In my way of thinking, the slap in the face was an expression of insulting a person. Surrending your jacket was going beyond assuring the needs of the other were met... the other person might refuse the jacket, but he will know you care.

I wonder what that religious leader would do if a gang started beating the crap out of him. Would he even try to bock the kicks and punches... You see, it depends on the cause. Stephen ws stoned to death for preaching the Gospel and so was willing not only to forgive but to die at the hands of those religious leaders- just like his Jesus did.
