Maybe it is your religious background that has set you off course, but I do not know what religious path you were on, but it indicates to me that it was only a religious "faith" - meaning a religious denomination. Such religion has no importune push into the kingdom of Jesus who pointed out the narrow gate that few find. My purpose is to explain the broad gate of religion versus the narrow gate of personal relationship and the vast difference between Faith defined as a denominational religion and "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ." - 1 John 1:3 Relationship, not religion. If your account of your evangelist backgrouns is accurate, then you havea valid point, but only with the narrow experience of your experience.
