"Remind everyone about these things, and command them in God’s presence to stop fighting over words. Such arguments are useless, and they can ruin those who hear them." - 2 Timothy 2:14.

I can certainly agree ..."When we battle with each other on the secondary, we hurt and are distracted..." I was taught, whether speaking or writing to consider the audience. I write to correct, encourage, and defend. So I contend for the faith whether speaking to those born anew or the "accusers of the brethren," and in those two quests I don't divide my forces, but I try to offer to those that hear to let them hear correctly. In that sense, I'll fight with the whole counsel of God and let the chips fall where they may.

I think you are coming from a different direction and are not wrong in doing so. "There are battles within and without."
