Significance of the Blood

There seems to be many words available to express the problem defining the significance of the use of “blood” in the Bible. From the Story of Adam and Eve to the Crucifixion of Jesus, blood is shed, and so, I should think it must have great significance.

How about you?

Although it still stands as a mystery, an enigma, a mystery, a puzzlement, a perplexing problem. possibly too deep for our human minds to understand… However, I am going to try to share my own understanding…

Here’s an example of its important expression in Gospel music which might help:Oh The Blood Of Jesus.

The next example is meant to be a catchy tune, but to some, thIs old popular tune might sound similar to a detergent ad… but it is far more serious than sarcastic joking…)

Alan Jackson — Are You Washed In The Blood? / I’ll Fly Away (Medley/Live)

Let me interject this fact that a vast majority of Americans do not appreciate, comprehend. or acknowledge the gravity of the blood and sacrifice of soldiers who bled and died, shedding their blood throughout history and throughout the world — on the beaches and in the forests and on the sea and under the sea… (Only 3% of Americans are connected to anyone in the military and only 1% actually serve.)

Proceeding back before my interjection, everyone knows that in the Laundry Room, blood is a very troublesome stain to wash out. Yet, in the Country Gospel song, it isn’t a stain — it is a cleansing agent!

Here’s another Gospel song which might help explain:Carrie Underwood — Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus (Official Audio Video)

The claim now is associated with Jesus’ blood, and further, His blood is supposed to cleanse us from the stain on our lives from the stains of our sins. In fact no matter how deep or stubborn the stain might be, Jesus’ blood will cleanse your garment…

“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.” — Isa:18, NLT.

How in the world…

If you need the official full explanation, start reading the Bible from cover to cover. You can learn as you go.

All the same, I’ll offer you my short version of a related topic from my studied opinion from my own cover to cover reading…

I’ll start at the beginning.

Sin — which can be defined as “disobedience to God causing hurt and harm to oneself or to others…” did have a beginning, and it is a hardened reality in Human affairs, and yes, it is the consequence of Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God which forced the Hand of Justice to the consequential expulsion from the Paradise God had provided for them. Mankind followed after a time of first calling on the Name of the Lord but then began to forge their way with only their own ideas and without those consultations with God…

Don’t we all have that very same habitual tendency? I mean, when was the last time you had any consultation with God?

(I know some people do not believe God exists at all, but I see that habit as just making excuses so they don’t have to answer to anyone but themselves… Think about it!)

Yet, in God’s parental caring nature. He provided for them in their most basic of needs. Clothing. Otherwise, why would He provide for them if He didn’t care?

That clothing had to come from somewhere and be much more durable than the fig leaves they had sown together. They had no idea of the harshness of the environment they were waltzing into…

Now let me point out that God saw that His creation of animals was a very good thing. Still and all, even though I assume that He loved those creatures, He loved the Humans more. So, He sacrificed the animals, shedding their blood, to protect Adam and Eve from the consequences he had warned them about. God provided animal hides for their protection.

It was the first sacrifice.

Anyone who has had a beloved pet put to sleep knows the emotional agony that accompanies the death of their pet.

Is it even possible to come close to knowing the agony of the Father’s sacrificing of His Son Jesus on that cross at Calvary?

So, now, does the shedding of Jesus’ blood also provide protection?

Yes it does.. and more.

Apparently, God had begun the process of making forgiveness available to all Humanity… Did cleansing follow God’s protection?

Eventually yes. It seems that way from the Bible stories.

.Do you think that that is where the Teaching in the New Testament comes from?

“In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.” — Hebrews 9:22, New Living Translation (NLT).

Are you beginning to see the masterplan here?

Anyways, in the Mosaic Laws there were ordained blood sacrifices for just about any sin you could possibly imagine. Most often, especially for the worst sins, a lamb without spot or blemish would have to be offered.

You might remember too about the Passover Lamb in the story of the Hebrew exodus from captivity in Egypt. The Death Angel would see the blood over the doors of the Hebrew homes and pass them by

Again, mercy and protection for decent people while the evil people suffered great consequential loss…

Next came the Hebrews’ deliverance from captivity, because they had obeyed God’s directive.

“What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice?

Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission {to God} is better than offering the fat of rams.” — 1 Samuel 15:22. NLT. my edit.

Again I ask, do you see the overall pattern unfolding?

I am reminded of this verse when John the Baptist first saw Jesus coming to be baptized: “ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’ — John 1:29.

I think this is a good place to end and let you know you can stop following your own ideas and at any time, turn to follow God’ masterplan for all of us
