Still not confident in the paraphrases you are leaning on... Notwithstanding, if I might add my vocational experience. I started late, but when I read "No work/no eat." I turned to apply myself much more diligently, taking on Temp jobs. Soon, God made me notice a Seed Mill and I heard, "Go there and I'll get you a job." In two days, I was working there. Later, when the Mill closed, he led me to a job right across the street that lasted almost 30 years. At the end of those years, I heard no "check" on my behavior and I got fired. I put it this way: God open the doors for me, but I left Him outside looking through the window. I suppose the "check" was being fired.
