Stuck
September 27, 2025
Let’s see… there’s “stuck on stupid,” “stuck on a girl,” “stuck up,” “stuck in the middle,” “stuck in rut…” Well, we can get stuck on just about anything, can’t we?
The Brits might say “We’re stuck in this bloody mess.” (I think I heard that in a War Movie once.)
I’d like to remind us all that Jesus fought for us to get us unstuck and keep us unstuck , and He had to become a bloody mess to do it.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. — Romans 5:6–8, NIV.
Cemeteries are full of soldiers who shed their blood for our benefit — for everyone they knew getting unstuck from evil tyrannies
All of them are mostly forgotten. Oh sure, we have marches on special days with parades and lots of flags, but for most part, it’s just another reason to party. Then, afterwards, we have to drag our butts back to being stuck at work the next day, thinking how tired we are and how stuck we are with our humdrum lives, thinking about finding our escapes in the next weekend… “stuck in a rut…”
Then, I suppose, getting unstuck about Jesus is coming up next with Christmas… but isn’t that more about going backwards, getting stuck in debt?
I know. I know… Mr. Grinch… Still, aren’t we stuck with the Santa myth more than Jesus’ birth? And doesn’t everyone get stuck with more grief afterwards, going deeper and deeper into debt than with joy beyond what words can express? You know… “Peace on Earth and goodwill to mankind.” and all that sort of joyfulness?
Think about it.., Jesus had a lot more to lose through His ordeal, and through all the torture He endured, since He had to remain faithful, “stuck on” you and me because of His all-encompassing love for us…
So, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. — Hebrews 12:1–3, NIV.
Come on! Think about it! For the joy set before him he endured the cross.
Do we think He was “stuck on himself” in enduring the torture — the beatings and the scourging, the humiliation, and the horrific ordeal of the crucifixion? Condemned as a criminal, an Enemy of the State, deserving capital punishment. Naked, bloodied, suffocating, mocked, abandoned, rejected — all on public display
He didn’t die to encumber us with guilt and impossible rules… Instead He died “for the joy set before Him…”
What do you think that joy is exactly?
“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish. — Matthew 18:12–14,NIV.
Then, my question to everyone is, I guess, do you want to get unstuck from whatever rut you’re stuck in?
In my life, I was stuck on stupid for way too long. Yet, Jesus saved me and unstuck me, and though {I} have not seen him, {I} love him; and even though {I} do not see him now, {I} believe in him and {am} filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy… — 1 Peter 1:8, NIV, {my edit from the plural “you” to the singular “I”}.
Why do we keep on trying to muddle through our lives in the confusion of our minds when we have this offer from Jesus:
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” — Matthew 11:28–30, NIV.
This, too, is a reliable fact: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. — Galatians 5:1, NIV.
Here’s a few songs I listen to which help to keep me from getting stuck all over again, and maybe they will help and encourage you all , too.
