The News Infotainment System is ,as I've written before, a disaster for democracy. Corporate owned and existing only as a for-profit institution, they are not a sound source of Journalistic integrity.
They now all now have extended segments for merchandising (not to appease the Santa Claus gods either.)
Maybe this has happened, because audiences are weary of "bad" news repeated on endless loops (it hurts our heads.), and perhaps because virtually the entire population has been convinced that happiness is totally dependent on materialistic rewards (with the only battle for the hearts and minds is over which thing will best fulfill our elusive Happiness...)
