Who Did What??

When I was growing up, there was a philosophy spreading around. It was really a pseudo-philosophy since philosophy is a Greek word that literally means “love of wisdom.” I never saw any knowledge or wisdom there — nothing pragmatic, practical, or existential. Anyways, the idea spreading around was that God is Dead. Turns out God is not dead. We are.

Later, when I was born again, I discovered God wasn’t the corpse, but I was the one that was dead. I was spiritually dead. I had not been able to see, feel, or hear God. But Jesus opened up my eyes so I could understand, made me consciously aware of His comforting presence, and opened my ears to be able to hear what He was saying.

Yes, I could “hear” Him as I read the Bible and heard the “still, small voice” within when I talked with Him. I knew His comfort and the care of His presence throughout every situation. I could see His workings and began to truly understand His purposes. I could see my way forward on the path of life, He lit the way day in and day out. I have the assurance that “He will never leave me or forsake me” and “The work He began in me, He will bring to completion.”

No, God is not dead. Jesus? Not dead. Holy Spirit? Still moving on the waters. (see, Genesis 1:1) God dead? No.

We are.

“… darkened in their understanding [blind] and separated from the life of God [dead] because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts [deaf from cynicism].” — Ephesians 4:18, and “In the past you were spiritually dead because of your disobedience and sins [all the harm you had caused].” — Ephesians 2:1.

(My edit [] of “sin” is my researched understanding of the Hebrew and Greek word which the English word gives the vague idea of “bad.” “Disobedience” is willful disregard for God’s parental guidance in the Old Testament as found in the Ten Commandments, for example. Notwithstanding, God so loved His Creation that He gave Jesus, His one and only one given birth by a woman, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (see, John 3:16)
